What is a Stator Assy?

Stator assy is the name of the part that you replace when replacing your motorcycle generator or alternator.stator assy The terms “stator,” “generator,” and “alternator” are often tossed around with casuality but they each serve a different purpose in the bike’s power generation system. This article will help clear up the confusion and give you an understanding of what a stator is, what it does, and why it works differently than other similar devices that also generate electricity for our bikes.

Essentially, the stator is an insulated core upon which multiple coils are wound to generate electricity by alternating magnetism.stator assy The coils are inserted into the core with ends connected to lead wires. When turned on, the windings induce currents in a spinning rotor to create motion. This rotating magnetic field then interacts with a stationary coil called a commutator to transfer current between the rotor and stator.

The resulting interaction between the rotor and stator is what provides our motors with the ability to generate electric power for our bikes. Stators and commutators are essential components in the evolution of electromotive devices.

In the early DC generators (known as dynamos) and DC motors, the field coils were on the stator and the power generation or motive coils were on the rotor. As the rotor spun, the commutator continuously shifted current between the rotor and the stator to maintain correct alignment of the magnet fields across the rotor and stators. As the technology evolved, AC alternators put all of the power generation coils in one container (the stator) and eliminated the need for a moving commutator. This configuration is what we currently have on our motorcycles.
