Engine Rods - Basic Connecting Rod Specifications

The components of one double ended rod and connecting rod assembly are illustrated in Fig.connecting rod specifications  6-3. The rod, which is nearly conical in cross section, is inserted into a crankcase in the engine. The end of the rod is bent back to accept a shank which is then threaded to accept a connecting rod. The shank is closed by a locking nut at the base of the rod.

The other components of a crankcase include the rod bearing and plastigage.connecting rod specifications  The rod bearing must be properly sized to accept the full diameter of the engine crankcase walls. It must be stiff enough to withstand considerable force during acceleration and deceleration. If either the rod bearing or the plastigage is improperly sized, it can cause severe damage to an engine or to the vehicle itself.

The specifications of connecting rods refer to the type of materials used. It is important to understand these types of material, as each one has unique properties. They are typically classified according to the method of operation. The most common types of materials are chrome vanadium, brass, steel, aluminum, magnesium, and nickel. These include a-frame rods, connecting rod bearings, connecting rings, connecting head kits, and camshafts. Each of these components is used in connecting rods to help ensure that they are correctly assembled. In addition to the use of these specific parts, the other components of crankshafts can also be installed by dealers in a finished state. These include oils, gaskets, sealants, and more. This helps to keep the finished product running properly.

Finally, an engine connecting rod can be certified by the manufacturer to indicate its quality. This is done by running various tests, including tensile strength, bend fatigue testing, etc. The test that a manufacturer uses is only done if it has been approved by the NADA, which is an internationally recognized organization. These steps help ensure that connecting rods are of the highest possible quality.
